Introduction
In the dynamic world of logistics and fresh products, speed and safety are essential. At Hoogvliet supermarkets, we see how technology and teamwork go hand in hand to get fresh products into the stores every day. Thanks to the collaboration with T Comm Telematics, Hoogvliet can optimize processes, safeguard food safety, and respond immediately to deviations during transport.
Smart logistics and automation
During a visit to Hoogvliet’s service center, we were given a unique look behind the scenes: from the bustling office to the state-of-the-art distribution center (DC).
The DC is highly automated: products are automatically placed into roll containers and then directed to the correct dispatch bin. This minimizes errors, increases efficiency, and ensures that fresh products arrive at the stores on time.
Real-time monitoring in action
The most impressive part of our visit was a live demonstration of T Comm telematics in action. During our conversation with Kees Twilt, Transport Manager, a T Comm alarm notification came through on his phone: a temperature deviation in one of the 160 dispatch bins.
The process unfolded as follows:
- Alarm notification received – The system immediately detected the deviation and sent a warning to Kees via the ACT app.
- Direct communication – Kees immediately contacted the driver to inform him that the temperature was deviating.
- Safe stop – The driver stopped as quickly as possible at a safe location to check the situation.
- Feedback – The driver identified the cause and was able to resolve it right away, ensuring that the temperature in the loading area remained within standard.
Thanks to this quick and coordinated action, Hoogvliet was able to intervene immediately and safeguard food safety. No products were lost, and the delivery continued uninterrupted.
Personalized data flow and automated workflow
The collaboration between Hoogvliet and T Comm goes beyond the standard alarm system. After a constructive brainstorming session with Hoogvliet and T Comm, a customized alarm system was developed that perfectly fits Hoogvliet’s processes.
Thanks to automation, temperature monitoring now starts directly at the loading stage, so the alarm is triggered immediately if there is any deviation.
This personalized and automated approach ensures that:
• Deviations are detected more quickly;
• The logistics workflow is not delayed;
• Food safety remains continuously safeguarded.
The role of T Comm Telematics
The T Comm’s telematic system monitors every step of the transport process in real time. By instantly converting data into ACTion, deviations can be immediately identified and corrected. This gives Hoogvliet the assurance that products are transported under optimal conditions, while the logistics process remains efficient.
“T Comm always thinks along with us about solutions and new developments,” says Kees Twilt.
Conclusion
The collaboration between Hoogvliet and T Comm demonstrates how real-time monitoring, automation, and personalized workflows create a more efficient, safer, and more sustainable logistics process. By instantly converting data into action, Hoogvliet guarantees food safety while simultaneously optimizing transport. Together, Hoogvliet and T Comm continue to innovate to take logistics to the next level.
